The
2007 PCA Peanut Festival held on September 8 had a new look and a new location:
Kingaroy Showgrounds.
It celebrated Kingaroy’s peanut heritage in a comical way showing off the strength and resilience of the local community at the inaugural
Queensland Strong Man Games.
It was a great day with acrobats, helicopter rides, peanut food from the Peanut Cafe, a display by an RAAF Roulette aircraft, a giant flag parachute drop and lots of Tuff Nuts testing their strength!
The morning began with a Peanut Breakfast which featured items from the Peanut Cafe, including peanut muffins and peanut sausages. The breakfast was accompanied by talks by PCA Managing Director
Bob Hansen, who explained the factors involved in climate change, breakfast sponsor
Dave Quinn from Tarong Energy and University of Queensland medical students
Graeme Rich and
Veevek Thankey who identified major health issues that could be overcome with better nutrition and exercise.
For example, did you know morning exercise is twice as effective as afternoon exercise and can be better than anti-depressants for lifting moods? There were also displays by working dogs, market stalls, music on stage by local band Blue Excuse and carnival rides for the whole family to enjoy.
The ever-popular
PeanutThresher Pull was this year listed with the
Guinness World Records ... now we have our fingers crossed that they will recognise the event as a world record!
