PCA KINGAROY PEANUT FESTIVAL:

Zane Micola
August 11, 2004

How far can you spit the dummy ... err nummy?

That's the challenge the 2003 Kingaroy Peanut Festival Nummy Spit adult champion Zane Micola, (right), has thrown down.

Last year Zane - PCA's North Queensland agronomist - travelled all the way from Tolga in far north Queensland to experience Kingaroy's Peanut Festival for himself.

Little did he know he was going to go back crowned Nummy Spitting Champion!

Zane will be back again for this year's festival and he believes his 11m effort last year will take some beating.Nummy spitting (nut + dummy = nummy, get it?) is just one of the novelty sports events at this year's Peanut Festival. There will also be Peanut Chipping (organised by Kingaroy Golf Club) and Peanut Pod Racing.

The Peanut Festival will be held in Kingaroy's O'Neill Square and adjacent streets on Saturday September 11.

The fun-packed day will also include:
  • The running of the Kingaroy Gold Duathlon

  • The ceremonial arrival of the Centenary Train

  • The Centenary Street Parade; and

  • Music, children's rides, street stalls and bush poetry.

A free mini-bus will be running to carry spectators from O'Neill Square to Barron's Machinery Yard in Youngman Street where they will be able to enjoy a working display of vintage machinery.

The 2004 Peanut Festival received a financial boost with $15,600 in funding provided under round six of the Queensland Events Regional Development Program.

The program is a State Government initiative designed to take unique and creative events to their full potential in order to increase local economic activity and development. Telstra Country Wide has partnered with the program, enabling additional events to receive funding assistance across the State.
