PCA KINGAROY PEANUT FESTIVAL:
July 17, 2008 PCA is proud to again be the major sponsor of the annual PCA Kingaroy Peanut Festival which will be held at the Kingaroy Showgrounds on Saturday August 2.This year's festival is extra special as it now features the official Guinness World Record peanut thresher pull, sponsored by the Tarong Coal Project Meandu Mine. Farmers teams from Kingaroy South and Kingaroy North, as well as teams from local businesses including PCA, will again be competing to pull the massive Amadas peanut thresher 50m in the fastest time. The fastest team this year will not only take home a cash prize and the The Peanut Van trophy, but will also have the honour of setting a new world record ... that is if they break the winning mark set last year by the King Fit Dreams team of 13.85 seconds.
September 15, 2007 The 2007 PCA Peanut Festival held on September 8 had a new look and a new location: Kingaroy Showgrounds.
It celebrated Kingaroy’s peanut heritage in a comical way showing off the strength and resilience of the local community at the inaugural Queensland Strong Man Games.
It was a great day with acrobats, helicopter rides, peanut food from the Peanut Cafe, a display by an RAAF Roulette aircraft, a giant flag parachute drop and lots of Tuff Nuts testing their strength!
September 15, 2007 This year's PCA Kingaroy Peanut Festival featured the inaugural Queensland Strong Man Games ... an opportunity for local "Tuff Nuts" to demonstrate their strength and endurance in a series of fun events.
Teams were entered by local businesses and the Army Reserve.
Just to prove the strength and resilience of Australian farmers, the Silverwood Farming team from Brooklands took out the Team Event and Silverwood's Barry Pamenter was named Queensland Strong Man.
September 15, 2007 South Burnett South, (right), returned to the winner's podium in the Australian Title (Farmer's Cup) Peanut Thresher Pull at the 2007 PCA Peanut Festival.
The team, made up of peanut growers from farms south of Haly Street, were previously champions in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
This year's Thresher Pull competition was a little bit different with the honour of being submitted to the Guinness World Records on the line as well as prize money and a trophy for the fastest pull on the day.
September 3, 2007 All peanut growers are invited to attend the Tarong Energy Farmers' and Strong Man Breakfast which will kick off this year's PCA Kingaroy Peanut Festival on Saturday September 8.
The breakfast, which will feature peanut-themed items from local butchers and bakeries, will be held in a marquee at the Kingaroy Showgrounds from 9am.
There are two menu options: Light Breakfast $5 and a Full Breakfast $10.
Presentations will be made during the breakfast by Peanut Company of Australia Managing Director Bob Hansen, Tarong Energy CEO Dave Quinn and student doctors who have been undertaking health research in the South Burnett.
February 22, 2007 PCA will be the major sponsor of the annual 2007 Kingaroy Peanut Festival, continuing a long association with one of south-east Queensland's most popular town festivals. The 2007 PCA Peanut Festival will be held at the Kingaroy Showgrounds (just 2.5 hours from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast) on Saturday September 8 from 10am.
September 20, 2006 Despite clashing with the Queensland State Election, the 2006 PCA Peanut Festival held in Kingaroy, (right), was another great success.
The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce estimated the crowd to be at least equal to last year with strong support from the local community.
The day began with the DPI&F Farmers' Breakfast which was held in O'Neill Square from 8am. Farmers and their families were invited to attend to help celebrate the 90th anniversary of the DPI&F in Kingaroy.
More than 60 people were served a free hot breakfast and were brought up-to-date on the latest peanut industry news.
September 20, 2006 PCA, in conjunction with The Peanut Van, launched a "world's first" new peanut product, Lyte & Crunchy, at this year's Peanut Festival in Kingaroy. The new product, ( right), is made from peanut kernels which have been pressed to release their peanut oil. Two varieties, Butterscotch & Caramel and Sugared, were unveiled at the Peanut Festival's DPI&F Farmers' Breakfast, held on the festival morning. The breakfast marked the 90th anniversary of the Department of Primary Industries & Fisheries in Kingaroy and provided the perfect opportunity for peanut growers, agronomists and others involved in the peanut industry to start Peanut Festival day.
September 15, 2006 The 2006 Australian Peanut Thresher Pull at the Kingaroy Peanut Festival attracted five teams competing in two categories, as well as the usual strong support of the crowd.
Team PCA, (right), gave it their all but unfortunately were eliminated in the first round of the All-Comers Cup.
Freemans Estates pulled off against the South Burnett Thrashers rugby union team in the final.
August 30, 2006 All peanut growers - and their partners! - are invited to attend the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries Farmers' Breakfast to be held on Peanut Festival Day (September 9).
The free breakfast, which will be held in O'Neill Square, Kingaroy, from 8am, will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the DPI&F at Kingaroy.
The celebration acknowledges the importance of primary industries in the Kingaroy district and the valuable assistance provided over the past 90 years by the DPI&F, especially to the peanut industry.Attendees will also hear how PCA is "Educating the consumer on Hi Oleics" and BGA is "Servicing the farming community."
August 24, 2006 PCA is the major sponsor of the 2006 Kingaroy Peanut Festival, which promises to be bigger and better than ever! The theme for this year's festival is planes, trains, automobiles ... and pushbikes. The festival will be held in and around the Kingaroy CBD (just 2.5 hours from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast) on Saturday September 9 from 10am.
September 15, 2005 The 2005 PCA Peanut Festival was the best ever ... with more entertainment, more rides, more street stalls, a bigger street parade ... and a bigger crowd!
Estimates of crowd attendance ranged between 8000-10,000.
The festival was organised by the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry with assistance from many other community groups.
Major sponsors were PCA, the Queensland Events Regional Development Program, Telstra Countrywide and Kingaroy Shire Council.
September 12, 2005 The King Gee National Peanut Thresher Pull Titles were a major crowd pleaser at the 2005 Peanut Festival with a boilover occurring in both divisions of the competition.
PCA Managing Director Bob Hansen (pictured right with thresher pull organiser Col Wolski) flagged off the competition.
It quickly became obvious that times for pulling the thresher over the 100m course were going to be slower than previous years because the competition had been relocated to the stretch of bitumen immediately in front of PCA's silos ... and (as the teams soon discovered) there was a slight incline.
August 24, 2005 The 2005 PCA Peanut Festival in Kingaroy promises to be bigger and better than ever with a huge street parade, market and food stalls, musicians and a special aerial display by one of the famous Roulette aircraft!
The Peanut Festival will be held on Saturday September 10 in O'Neill Square, Kingaroy, and adjacent streets (including in front of PCA's silos).
There'll be a range of "nutty sports" taking place in the Best and Less Peanut Olympics - including the nummy spit, M&M Smash (a big thank you to Masterfoods!) and peanut chipping.
September 15, 2004 The 2004 Kingaroy Peanut Festival marked a special milestone for the Peanut Company of Australia as well as for Kingaroy - the town dubbed the "Peanut Capital of Australia". While Kingaroy celebrated 100 years since the arrival of the railway (and the foundation of the town), PCA celebrated 80 years since the establishment of its forerunner, the Peanut Marketing Board. PCA was the host sponsor for the 2004 Festival, held on September 11, which included a number of "peanutty" sporting events, including Peanut Pod Racing, Peanut Nummy Spitting, Peanut Chipping (using a golf club not a hoe!) and abseiling down Kingaroy's landmark peanut silo.
September 15, 2004 The 2004 Peanut Festival featured the Kingaroy Centenary Parade, the re-enactment of the arrival of the first train in Kingaroy, traditional Aboriginal dancing, bands, stalls and a whole lot more ...
September 15, 2004 The National Peanut Thresher Pull Titles was again the highlight of the annual PCA Kingaroy Peanut Festival.
Farmers' teams from South Burnett South (Kumbia) and South Burnett North (Wooroolin) competed in the Australian Title Farmers' Cup while Team PCA, Toyota, the State Emergency Service and Police competed in the All-Comers Challenge Cup.
Winners (for the third year running!) were Kingaroy South and Team PCA who managed to pull the 20 tonne peanut thresher over the 50m course in the fastest times.
September 15, 2004 The 2004 Kingaroy Gold Duathlon, sponsored by PCA as part of the annual Kingaroy Peanut Festival, attracted 135 keen runners eager to test their endurance. The Triathlon Queensland-sanctioned event offered total prize money of over $2600 including $400 first prize to the male and female winners of the Open (a 10km run, 40km cycle and 5km run). Prize money was awarded to the male and female winners of 10 categories.
August 11, 2004 How far can you spit the dummy ... err nummy?
That's the challenge the 2003 Kingaroy Peanut Festival Nummy Spit adult champion Zane Micola, (right), has thrown down.
Last year Zane - PCA's North Queensland agronomist - travelled all the way from Tolga in far north Queensland to experience Kingaroy's Peanut Festival for himself.
Little did he know he was going to go back crowned Nummy Spitting Champion!
September 14, 2003 The Peanut Company of Australia was the host sponsor for the 2003 Peanut Festival held in Kingaroy on September 5-7.
Organisers estimate 5000 people passed through Kingaroy's O'Neill Square on Festival Day (Saturday September 6) to catch the various events on offer which included displays by emergency services personnel, bands and martial arts groups.
Particularly popular was the 2003 Thresher Pull Titles (which attracted competitors from as far afield as Tolga and Tenterfield) and the Kingaroy Gold Duathlon (the Queensland State Duathlon Titles) - but there was something for everyone as our photos show!
September 14, 2003 Peanut growers from as far afield as the Atherton Tableland, Rockhampton and the South Burnett swapped notes at a Farmers' Breakfast held on Saturday, September 6 at the Kingaroy Hotel.
The growers were joined by local representatives from PCA, including Managing Director Bob Hansen and his wife Julie.
September 14, 2003 A hot afternoon hauling a 20 tonne peanut thresher did not faze the defending champions of the Australian Peanut Thresher Pull. Kingaroy South again won the Farmer's Trophy and the PCA Social Club successfully defended the All-Comers Cup. Seven teams competing in two categories took part in this year's Thresher Pull, part of the 2003 Peanut Festival held in Kingaroy. RIGHT: The victorious PCA Social Club Thresher Pull team

September 10, 2003 The 2003 Peanut Dinner attracted more than 250 people - including peanut growers from Tolga, Bundaberg and Rockhampton - to the annual gala function at Kingaroy Town Hall on Friday September 5th. RIGHT: Kingaroy radio announcer Lee Faulkner, from 10.71AM, compered the evening. He is pictured with fellow personality "Damo" (Damien Martoo) who along with Lee worked hard announcing events during The Kingaroy Peanut Festival the following day.
September 3, 2003 Southern growers won't have it all their own way in the Australian Title Peanut Thresher Pull at the 2003 Kingaroy Peanut Festival with the boys from Tolga hoping to haul home the trophy to the Atherton Tableland.
This is the first time a team from Tolga has made the trek to Kingaroy to compete in the festival.
Photos of the massive thresher that awaits them haven't deterred the team although they admit they've got nothing that big in Tolga - except their big yields and jumbo nuts!
August 31, 2003 The Peanut Company of Australia is the host sponsor for the 2003 Kingaroy Peanut Festival - the annual street carnival when the Peanut Capital of Australia gets to kick up its heels.
This year's festival will be held on September 5-7 and also includes the annual Peanut Industry Dinner (where industry achievement awards will be presented) and the running of the PCA-sponsored Qld State Duathlon Titles.
PCA's employees and growers are well and truly throwing their weight behind the carnival, training hard for the annual Australian Title Peanut Thresher Pull.
