Kingaroy's iconic peanut silos have been featured in the latest edition of the Queensland Heritage Council's "Time and Place" magazine. The silos were entered into the Heritage Register last year - and as the magazine notes, they are one of Queensland's more unusual listings. Read more...

Well-known Aussie businessman Dick Smith visited Kingaroy last Friday to push a "Buy Australian" message in support of local peanut growers. Dick, who was accompanied on his whistlestop visit by a planeload of reporters and photographers, has convinced Coles supermarkets to leave an empty space on their shelves until he can source enough Australian peanuts to resume supplying them with full stocks of his Dick Smith Peanut Butter brand. The Peanut Company of Australia has been recognised among Australia's most progressive organisations, winning a 2011 Australian Business Award for Innovation for its launch of the new peanut variety "Tingoora". The Australian Business Award for Innovation, which was announced on last Friday, recognises organisations that have made significant contributions to their industry through the introduction or improvement of an idea, method, technology, process or application resulting in an economic, environmental, educational and/or social benefit. A promised six weeks' work has turned into a 40-year career for PCA's Raw Plant manager Chris Seng who was honoured at the company's annual Long-Serving Employees Dinner held in Kingaroy last week. Chris was presented with a certificate and gift to mark his 40 years of service to the company Managing Director Craig Mills described Chris as an "icon" at PCA and a "quiet achiever". Read more...

Twelve-year-old Lachlan White's "finger lickin'" chicken wraps wowed the judges at the PCA Junior Cook-Off, held as part of the 2011 Wine and Food in the Park Festival this month in Kingaroy. Lachlan, from Kingaroy, was accompanied on stage by his mum Simone and prepared two servings of the dish in front of a large audience in the PCA marquee. Read more...
