PCA SOUTH BURNETT REGIONAL CULINARY COMPETITION:
February 6, 2009 PCA is again proud to be a major sponsor of the annual Wine and Food in the Park Festival which will be held at Kingaroy's Memorial Park on March 14. There'll be cooking displays and food discussions in the PCA marquee featuring some of Queensland's leading food identities.
 March 11, 2008 Brisbane chef Graham Waddell, ( right), took out the prize for Overall Best Dish at the 2008 PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition on the weekend. Graham, one of the team of chefs at leading Brisbane restaurant Baguette, prepared Szechuan Pork Fillet with Crayfish Nam Jim and Peanut Crumble. He teamed it with a 2007 Barambah Verdelho. Prize for Best Matching of Dish with South Burnett Wine went to Sheree Strauss, chef from the Whipbird Function Centre at Coolabunia.
February 29, 2008 Well-known Brisbane chef David Pugh, from Restaurant Two, will be one of the three judges at this year's PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition. David, ( right), has worked with some of the world's finest chefs, including a two-year stint at London's Connaught Hotel. He will be joined at the judges' tables by respected food writers Kerry Heaney, from Style Magazine, and David Costello, from the Courier-Mail's Good Life magazine.

 March 13, 2007 Kingaroy Hotel-Motel chef Helen Pratt, (right), took out the major prize for "Best Overall Dish" at the fifth annual PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition last weekend.
Helen prepared a white chocolate cheesecake on a peanut/biscuit crumb base served in a partially hollowed out dragonfruit.
Co-judge Alastair McLeod, from Channel 10's "Ready, Steady Cook" program and Brett's Wharf Restaurant in Brisbane, praised the high quality of the entrants.
March 8, 2007 Eight of the South Burnett's best chefs will compete for honours at the 2007 PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition this weekend, part of the Tarong Mine Wine and Food in the Park Festival. The competitors will be representing a broad cross-section of the food service industry. Chefs, apprentices and hospitality students from the Nanango RSL, the Bell Tower Restaurant, SB Food Service Distributors, the Kingaroy Hotel, Kingaroy Hospital Canteen and Kingaroy TAFE will be locking horns in the hotly contested event.
February 12, 2007 Leading Brisbane chef Alastair McLeod has agreed to return for a third time to judge the PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition (which will be held during the annual Wine and Food in the Park Festival on March 10).

 July 26, 2006 Talented Kingaroy TAFE trainee Aimee Stoddart - who took out an encouragement award at the 2006 PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition - has been making her mark in Brisbane.
Aimee (pictured at right with PCA Marketing Manager Juli Robertson, celebrity chef Alastair McLeod and TAFE teacher Jason Ford) completed her work experience prize recently at Brett's Wharf Restaurant.
Brett's Wharf Executive Chef Alastair McLeod - well-known from the TV program "Ready, Steady Cook" - said Aimee was an extremely worthy winner at the PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition.
 March 13, 2006 The fourth annual PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition, part of Kingaroy's Wine and Food in the Park Festival, was a huge success at the weekend with PCA's marquee packed all day. The crowds watched nine competitors prepare a string of main meals, entrees and desserts which all featured peanuts! Overall winner for the competition was Paul Stoddart from Kingaroy's Burning Beats Cafe. Paul prepared Crispy Peanut Chicken as an entree, followed by Pork and Peanut Claypot as his main dish. These were teamed with a 2005 Captain's Paddock Verdelho.
 February 15, 2006 A new generation of future chefs will make their debut at this year's PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition. Amongst the line-up of cookery students, trainees and apprentice chefs is 15-year-old school-based trainee Aimee Stoddart ( pictured at right with dad Paul). Aimee is a student at Kingaroy State High School, works part-time at the Burning Beats Restaurant in Kingaroy and studies commercial cookery at Kingaroy TAFE. The budding young cook will also compete against more seasoned chefs ( including her father Paul Stoddart who's a four-time veteran of the competition and a 2004 prize-winner).
 February 7, 2006 PCA is happy to announce the judges for the 2006 South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition (which will be held during the annual Wine and Food in the Park Festival on March 11) and they're sure to keep our competitors on their toes! The judging panel is an exciting line-up of top Queensland foodies. Alastair McLeod, ( right), is Executive Chef at the iconic Brett's Wharf Restaurant (Brisbane) and is returning to judge the cook-off for the second time. In 2005, Alastair shot to national fame when he became a resident chef on Channel 10's Ready, Steady, Cook.

March 31, 2005 A record crowd of 6500 people attended this year's Kingaroy Wine and Food In The Park festival - and sometimes it seemed all of them were inside PCA's tent at the same time for the PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition!
 March 24, 2005 The 2005 PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition drew record crowds to the PCA marquee at the Kingaroy Wine and Food In The Park Festival on March 12. Overall winner - for the third year running! - was Kingaroy chef Steve Gudzinski who represented Explorers Restaurant.
Judges were Alastair McLeod, head chef at Brett's Wharf restaurant, Brisbane and Nick Bray, food writer for the Courier-Mail's "The Good Life" section (pictured at right with event co-organiser Jason Ford).
Alastair said Steve had shown great innovative touches preparing his entry but had used restraint and a very mature eye, allowing the local produce to be the star.
March 7, 2005 Nine leading South Burnett chefs will be competing in the third annual PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition on this weekend in Kingaroy. The competition is an integral part of the 2005 Wine and Food in the Park Festival which will be held on Saturday in Memorial Park. Each chef has 20 minutes to prepare an innovative dish using South Burnett produce (including peanuts) matched with a local wine.Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE Kingaroy Hospitality Teacher and competition co-organiser Jason Ford will also give a cooking demonstration using peanuts to create a delectable dessert of Peanut and Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Soft Fruit Salsa.
 February 25, 2005 PCA is proud to be again sponsoring the South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition because it gives the region "a real boost". Managing Director Mr Bob Hansen ( pictured at right with the entrants) explained this during a photo-shoot held last week to publicise the competition which will be held during Kingaroy's Wine and Food In The Park festival on March 12, 2005. "The South Burnett is becoming a major player in the Queensland tourism industry and we want to help it along," Mr Hansen said.
 February 14, 2005 Well-known Courier-Mail journalist Nick Bray and Brisbane chef Alastair McLeod will be coming to Kingaroy in March as guests of PCA to judge the South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition, a highlight of the annual Wine and Food in the Park Festival. Nick has already written extensively about the South Burnett for the Courier-Mail's Good Life section and we're certain he'll enjoy his return visit to the region ... he's already planning a "restaurant crawl". Alastair is one of Brisbane's best known chefs, wearing the Executive Chef's hat at the award-winning Brett's Wharf restaurant in Hamilton.
February 8, 2005 PCA is proud to again be sponsoring the South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition at the 2005 Wine and Food in the Park festival. Judges for this year's competition are Brisbane chef Alastair McLeod and Courier-Mail Good Life food critic Nick Bray.
 December 14, 2004 Former Kingaroy TAFE hospitality student Amy Ballin, ( right), is making it big in Europe after making her first public presentation as a chef at the PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition in 2003. In August, Amy made it to the semi-finals of the Gordon Ramsay Scholarship and in October competed in the prestigious Young Chef Young Waiter competition. The UK competition, now in its 20th year, is organised by The Restaurant Association and is widely regarded as one of the best in Europe because of its high standards and the large number of entrants.
 March 29, 2004 The Wine and Food in the Park Festival attracted more than 6000 people to Kingaroy's Memorial Park ... and most of them seemed to pass through PCA's marquee at some time!
The PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition attracted good crowds and PCA was also proud to host the unveiling of the South Burnett's new promotional logo, (right), and slogans: "Taste the Magic", "Discover the Magic" and "Uncork the Magic".
March 22, 2004 The 2004 PCA South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition was a huge success with the PCA marquee at Kingaroy's Wine and Food in the Park Festival filled to capacity by people eager to watch the best local chefs in action.
This is the second year that PCA had been involved as the major sponsor and the event was bigger than ever with seven chefs competing.
Each chef was allowed 20 minutes to prepare two servings of their chosen dish which had to feature South Burnett ingredients. They also had to nominate a South Burnett wine to serve with their dish.
February 13, 2004 The Peanut Company of Australia is proud to again sponsor the South Burnett Regional Culinary Competition at this year's Wine and Food in the Park Festival in Kingaroy. The 2003 competition was a huge success with chefs from several fine South Burnett restaurants competing.
